Automated Meter Reader
Installs and troubleshoots Automated Meter Reader (AMR) meters to automatically collect consumption of residential and commercial water meters. Performs tests to calibrate equipment to ensure water meters are functioning accurately. Performs a variety of routine manual tasks for the utilities divisions in such areas as installing, maintaining, disconnection and removal of new residential and commercial water meters.

Good knowledge of the methods and procedures used in reading meters. Good knowledge of meter service operating procedures. Good knowledge of the geographical layout of the City and the location of meters. Good knowledge of assigned route. Good knowledge of basic arithmetic. Good knowledge of safe work practices. Good knowledge of operational characteristics of water meters. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel. Good knowledge of principles and procedures of customer service. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to read and accurately record meter readings. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and the public. Ability to learn troubleshooting methods and techniques to analyze problems in field. Ability to read maps and locate addresses. Ability to work in the field under adverse weather conditions and to stand and walk for long periods of time. Ability to work independently in the absence of supervision. Ability to utilize computer hardware and software relating to work and field equipment. Ability to learn to operate associated software systems quickly and efficiently. Ability to create and distribute multiple reports through the utility billing software system. Maintaining accurate records of work performed. Ability to maintain consistent attendance.
