HVAC Tech III

Under limited supervision, The HVAC (Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning) III technician performs skilled technical work in the maintenance, repair, replacement, and installation of HVAC/R equipment including boilers. This technician primarily concentrates on servicing and troubleshooting chillers and Energy Management Controls Systems that communicate to the Building Operations Command Center (BOCC).
Typical duties include:
- Providing technical support to HVAC technicians and other departments
- Installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining various mechanical and HVAC equipment
- Replacing defective HVAC electrical and electronic controls to include communication cables
- Assisting in monitoring Energy Management Control System at BOCC; responding promptly to alarm conditions and troubleshooting system malfunction in the field
- Checking distribution systems for proper velocity, volume, temperature, pressure, etc.
- Utilizing skills in plumbing, mechanical, electrical, HVAC and refrigeration systems
- Tending to or firing one or more boilers to produce steam or high-temperature water
- Adjusting controls to ensure safe and efficient boiler operation and to meet demands for steam or high-temperature water
- May prepare work sketches and assist in the design and specifications of planned work
- Responding to emergency calls after normal work hours
- Frequent travel between facilities is required
- Ensuring PRIDE safety policies and procedures are followed
- Performs other duties and special projects as assigned
Minimum qualifications include:
- Advanced knowledge of and understanding of Energy Management Controls Systems
- Five to eight years of field experience servicing HVAC equipment and controls
- Ability to diagnose and resolve advanced network operation problems
- Knowledge of computer systems operation and network administration
- Expanded understanding of building blueprints and electrical schematics
- Provide technical support and guidance to HVAC shop personnel
- Advanced electrical and electronic trouble shooting skills
The following licenses or certificates may be required depending on local, state and/or contract requirements:
- EPA Certification
- R410A Safety
- Valid Driver's License
Physical requirements include:
- Maneuvering to, in, and around equipment
- Bending, kneeling, stooping and reaching
- Climbing stepstools or ladders
- Lifting and moving heavy equipment up to 35 pounds
- Climbing ladders to gain access to rooftop equipment
- Monitoring computer systems and control displays
Work is performed at a customer's location in office, shop, warehouse, or outdoor environment. May require driving to and from worksite locations. Equipment can be located in crawl spaces, rooftops, and outside facility. Employees may be exposed to hazardous and/or toxic substances, electrical shock, noise from equipment, and depending on external weather conditions, wind, rain, cold, and heat.
