Maintenance Worker

Job Description

To perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the construction, maintenance and repair of Golf and Airport grounds and facilities. This is the entry-level class in the Maintenance Worker series. Performs routine tasks and duties assigned under close supervision. Since this class is typically used as a training class, employees may have only limited or no directly related work experience.

Examples of Duties

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Essential Functions:

• Wash and clean sidewalks at golf facilities.
• Repair and maintain all restroom facilities; use various chemicals to sanitize restroom facilities.
• Participate in landscaping areas; mow and trim lawns; trim vegetation; apply herbicides and pesticides.
• Participate in chipping wood; collect fallen limbs in golf areas.
• Repair and maintain all equipment assigned to Division.

Additional Duties:

• Perform related duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

Knowledge of:

• Operation and use of a variety of tools and equipment.

Ability to:

• Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Learn proper lifting techniques for minimizing physical injury.
• Learn the operation of a variety of tools, machinery and equipment relevant to work assignments.
• Perform physical requirements of the job.
• Perform work in undesirable conditions including inclement weather.
• Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
