Job Description
The Retirement Plans Sales Specialist is an internal sales support position whose primary responsibility is to use their technical retirement plan expertise to help advisors with sales strategies, plan selection, rules/regulations and appropriate solutions via consultative inbound calls to drive sales. This includes, but is not limited to, the following areas:
• IRAs, including Traditional, Roth and Inherited IRAs
• Business Retirement Plans (401(k), I(k), SEP and Simple IRAs)
• 403(b), 457 and defined benefit plans
• RMD and SEPP calculations
• Retirement Accumulation and Distribution Strategies (e.g. rollovers, net unrealized appreciation, Roth conversions, In-service Distributions, etc.)
• Retirement Income Strategies
Responsibilities:
- Cover the inbound phone queue and expected to make some outbound calls/case work to support partnered region
- Ensure a high level of advisor satisfaction by responding to inbound calls and emails from advisors to provide technical expertise on sales strategies, rules/regulations, and solutions to drive retirement plan sales
- Subject Matter Expert for team members and internal stakeholders
- Provide flexibility in the queue coverage to make sure we are properly staffed, participate in team meetings and handle other needs for the team
- Maintain strong working relationships with product partners, marketing, sales strategy and retirement sales team
- Accurately track all activity in Salesforce.com
- Partner with subject matter experts across the firm and outside of the firm to continually improve the quality of advice being given to clients. This includes supporting development of new strategies and on-going maintenance of existing processes, tools, and services
- Utilize Microsoft Teams for advisor sales interactions when needed
- Complete required coursework to maintain compliance with state and federal regulations and licenses
Required Qualifications: - 5+ years' experience in financial services industry, financial sales, or financial wholesaling with proven phone skills
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in a related field
- Active Series 7 or ability to obtain within 120 days
- Active State securities agent registration (S63 or S66) or the ability to obtain within 120 days
- Active State IAR registration (S65 or S66) or ability to obtain within 120 days
- Must have a clean compliance record
Preferred Qualifications: - Proven ability to establish rapport and credibility quickly
- Open to sales call coaching
- Excellent communication and influencing skills
- Independent self-starter with strong teamwork orientation and relationship skills
- Deep understanding of the retirement plans: IRAs (Traditional, Roth, Inherited, SIMPLE, SEP), Qualified Plans (401(k) and 403(b)) and Cash Balance Plans
- CFP, ChFC, CRPC, CRPS and RICP designations preferred (or strong desire to achieve)
- Experience as a financial planner or financial advisor
- Experience with Ameriprise Financial product suite
- Knowledge of the Ameriprise field structure
- Demonstrated sales and coaching experience and understanding of the wholesaling process
- Ability to articulate complex information in a clear and concise manner and excellent telephone communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities

In-Office Collaboration We are a client-centric, relationship-based business. Working together, in-person, is foundational to how we achieve results. Our employees work in the office at least four (4) days per week, with flexibility to work from home one (1) day per week. Some roles may require additional in-office time or different in-office expectations, and specific requirements will be discussed during the hiring process.
Base Pay Salary The estimated base salary for this role is $80,000 - $95,000 / year. We have a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy. Your initial total compensation may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and geographical work location. In addition, most of our roles are eligible for variable pay in the form of bonus, commissions, and/or long-term incentives depending on the role.
