Location: Remote (Must reside in TX, GA, LA, MS, AL, FL, WA, or TN)

Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours/week

  • Training Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM CT
  • Post-Training Flexibility: Flexible starttimes between 5:00 AM – 10:00 AM CT; ability to make up time on weekends

Systems Used: Epic, 3M 360, Microsoft Teams


Position Overview

Are you an experienced Inpatient Hospital Coder looking for a stable, high-quality remote role with long-term growth potential? We are partnering with a large, multi-facility health system to hire Inpatient Coders to support both production-based inpatient coding and pre-bill review/audit functions across multiple hospitals.

This team supports several inpatient facilities, offering a diverse and engaging case mix. Depending on experience and team needs, coders may be aligned to production coding, auditing, or a blend over time. Essential Job Functions

Inpatient Coding

  • Code inpatient hospital medical records across a varied case mix, including:
  • Orthopedics, Neurology, Cardiology, Stroke, GYN, Trauma, Burns, Transplants, and more
  • Review documentation and assign accurate ICD-10-CM/PCS codes in accordance with official coding guidelines
  • Utilize Epic and 3M 360 Encoder for code assignment and DRG validation
  • Maintain expected productivity standards (approximately 2.5 charts/hour, adjusted for longer length-of-stay cases)
  • Ensure coding accuracy, completeness, and compliance across multiple facilities and service lines
  • Perform pre-bill reviews (100% review of new inpatient coders' charts)
  • Conduct retrospective audits across all supported facilities
  • Complete mandatory reviews for: PSI and HAC indicators, DRGs, MCCs, CCs, Malnutrition documentation, Principal and secondary diagnoses
  • Validate accurate code selection and identify education opportunities for inpatient coders
  • Start with lower-complexity charts and ramp to higher-acuity cases over time


Quality, Collaboration & Growth

  • Apply strong knowledge of inpatient coding guidelines and regulatory standards
  • Collaborate with coding leadership, auditors, and peers via Microsoft Teams
  • Participate in education, feedback, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Support a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous learning



Candidate Requirements

  • Active AHIMA certification required (CCS, RHIT, or RHIA)
  • Strong inpatient hospital coding experience required
  • Experience with Epic and 3M 360 strongly preferred
  • Auditing or pre-bill review experience for large or academic hospital systems preferred
  • Solid understanding of inpatient coding guidelines, DRG assignment, MCC/CC capture, and quality indicators
  • Inpatient + outpatient coding experience is a plus, though inpatient is the primary focus
  • Strong attention to detail, critical thinking skills, and the ability to work independently
  • Collaborative mindset and ability to mesh well with a high-performing team
