JOB TITLE: Meat Department Manager

III. JOB SUMMARY:

As a vital leader in our store, you will ensure compliance with company policies, security measures, and operational standards. Your role is crucial in maximizing store sales and profitability by executing promotional and merchandising programs effectively. You will be a model for outstanding customer service and promote a culture of teamwork and open communication.

IV. JOB RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Responsible To: Store Manager / Meat Specialist / Meat Director
  • Teammates Supervised: All teammates within the meat department
  • Inter-Relationships: Regular contact with teammates, customers, corporate office, and vendors

V. JOB DUTIES:

  • Order and manage inventory control to ensure product freshness and quality.
  • Review financial and operational outcomes to assess department performance.
  • Make informed decisions regarding operational procedures.
  • Control damaged, spoiled, or out-of-date products as per policy.
  • Ensure teammate courtesy and prompt customer service.
  • Assess staffing needs and participate in the hiring process.
  • Verify quality of meat products received according to vendor invoices.
  • Coordinate with the Store Manager to address feedback and suggestions.
  • Implement department merchandising plans and ensure compliance with company policies.
  • Train and motivate department teammates.
  • Evaluate vendor promotions with an aim to increase sales.
  • Conduct regular inspections of the department and ensure all standards are maintained.
  • Create a safe and organized work environment.
  • Assist in unloading trucks and stocking products.
  • Work collaboratively with teammates to resolve operational issues.

VI. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Training and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; college education preferred.
  • 5 years of experience in meat department operations.
  • Completion of a management training program is preferred.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:

  • Knowledge of various meats and their cooking methods.
  • Ability to operate meat department equipment effectively.
  • Strong customer relations skills.
  • Ability to calculate costs and manage budgets.

VII. WORKING CONDITIONS:

Exposure to refrigerated areas and various temperatures, including frozen storage. This role requires navigating wet surfaces and operating power tools.

VIII. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Heavy work requiring physical stamina; including lifting up to 100 pounds, standing, and moving frequently. Ability to perform various physical tasks is essential.
