Job Title: Piping Designer - Industrial & Commercial Facilities

Location: Cary, NC (Hybrid - 40% in-office)

Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Piping Designer to develop and coordinate piping layouts and models using AutoCAD Plant 3D or Revit. This role applies fundamental piping design principles to support safe, efficient, and high-quality facility designs. The ideal candidate collaborates across disciplines, incorporates vendor data, and ensures designs meet project scope, schedule, and quality requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop piping layouts and routing using AutoCAD Plant 3D or Revit.
  • Apply piping design fundamentals, including pipe sizing, routing, and multi-discipline coordination.
  • Assist in facility equipment layout to ensure safe and efficient designs.
  • Review and integrate vendor drawings and equipment data into piping models.
  • Identify potential changes impacting project scope, hours, or deliverables.
  • Support development of person-hour estimates for assigned tasks.
  • Collaborate with global teams to ensure successful workshare execution.
  • Maintain compliance with design standards, procedures, and QA/QC requirements.
Required Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree in Design Technology or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of piping design experience in industrial or commercial facilities.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Plant 3D or Revit for piping design and modeling.
  • Solid understanding of piping design fundamentals and equipment layout.
  • Ability to interpret piping specifications and apply them to designs.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills for coordination across disciplines.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, or advanced manufacturing facilities.
  • Familiarity with pipe stress considerations and integration into designs.
  • Experience with specification management and QA/QC workflows.
  • Knowledge of Hexagon SmartPlant 3D.
  • Exposure to global workshare execution and collaborative design environments.
