Role:
The Student Engagement Assistant provides frontline support for student engagement programming and daily Life Center operations. This position plays a critical role in preparing for, supporting, and resetting campus events, while also ensuring the Life Center remains welcoming, organized, and student-ready. The Student Engagement Assistant actively contributes to creating a vibrant, inclusive, and well-supported campus environment.
The pay rate for this part-time position is $15.00 per hour.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- 35% Event Support and Engagement Operations. Assists with set up, breakdown, and reset for campus engagement events, programs, and tabling activities. Prepares supplies, decorations, furniture, and equipment for events. Provides on-site support during events, including crowd flow, materials distribution, and logistical assistance.
- 35% Information Desk and Customer Service. Greets students, employees, and guests upon entry to the Life Center. Answers basic questions, directs visitors appropriately, and provides general program and event information. Answers phones, takes messages, and routes calls appropriately. Maintains a professional and welcoming environment.
- 15% Facility Operations and Environment Maintenance. Ensures the Life Center remains clean, organized, and student-ready. Resets furniture layouts following events and daily operations. Assists with organization of storage rooms and engagement materials.
- 10% Equipment and Resource Management. Assists with checking in/out equipment and program materials. Reports damaged, missing, or unsafe equipment to the Director of Student Life and Development. Helps maintain inventory levels for engagement
supplies. - 5% Performs other related duties as assigned by the Director of Student Life and Development.

Knowledge and Skills: - Experience: No previous work experience required. Background in customer service, events, student engagement, or campus programming preferred.
- Education: A high school education or GED.
- Interpersonal Skills: Work normally involves contacts with persons beyond immediate associates generally regarding routine matters for purposes of giving or obtaining information which may require some discussion. Outside contacts take the form of service to the public (students, visitors or vendors) requiring ordinary courtesy in providing assistance and information.
- Other Skills: Good communication skills, organization, basic computer skills and knowledge, and ability to provide excellent customer services.
- Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items, driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are are required to perform the work.
- Work Environment: Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office.
