**Job Description****Why will you enjoy this new opportunity?**Skyline is the most consumed SaaS services in VMware designed to help customers become more proactive and helping them stay out of harms way. Skyline uses large scale data collection, a sophisticated rules engine and advanced data pipelines to drive towards this goal.Our software includes on-premise data collection along with a backend data services layer and stateful streaming analytics, built using a combination of Java, Python and Rust, designed to be highly modular with non-disruptive updates.As part of this team, you will work closely with cross-functional teams across geographic locations to ensure product delivery & customer commitments are met on time.**What is the primary need, technical challenge, and/or problem you will be responsible for?**As a fast-growing product, integrating vertically with other VMware products, Skyline leadership team is looking for a passionate java software engineer to drive and steer our platform capabilities and expand to new use cases.Such a new use case emerged, and we're tasked to build next generation of VMware on-premise cloud proxy appliance, which will be the vessel for various product teams and their agents bridging private with public cloud infrastructure.As part of this effort, we have to build Virtual Appliance, SaaS control planes, Monitoring tools and at a later stage consolidate the data collection between all product agents.Skyline is committed to transforming customer experience and simplifying consumption pattern, while building highly scalable, robust and high quality components consumed by customers and other VMware product teams.**Success in the role: What are the performance goals over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?**Within your first 6 months+ You will be expected to learn the platform, the infrastructure, the tools and some areas of ownership for the team.+ You will get familiar with the relevant VMware product/services+ You will get to know the technologies and process being used in the team+ You will start contributing to the development of services by executing tasksAfter 6 months+ You will collaborate in designing and delivering new features for the platform+ Establishing a relationship of trust and leadership with the team, and becoming an influential voice in the success of the team+ Representing the team and product in cross-team design discussions, identifying dependencies and areas of impact+ Be able to take general guidance from product and engineering leadership, identify areas of ambiguity, complexity, and risk, and propose solutions+ Proactively make proposes and improvements to the benefit of the team**What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?**+ Develop microservices using cloud-native technologies like Kubernetes, REST APIs, databases, Message queues, distributed tracing, monitoring and more.+ Develop on-premise virtual appliance components in java, bash/shell, python+ Write technical design documents and hold reviews+ Participate in all team scrum ceremonies+ Conduct code reviews+ Participate in our on-call rotation, providing operational support to our platform+ Work closely with management to understand priorities, and advocate for them on the team**What is the leadership like for this role?
